Francis Douglas' Future of Gaming

There are many aspects of games recently being implemented which could change video games forever. One of the biggest changes is an increase in virtual reality gaming with the use of PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift. Virtual reality games could eventually be more than just games and would be used in many aspects of life-such as job training, interactions with other humans, and also a way to stay active because new VR xperiences require you to move around a lot. The next huge gaming update is augmented reality like we saw with Pokemon Go which required us to move around in real life to be able to play the game.

While there is new types of gaming like AR and VR, just regular consoles games are changing the future as well. Graphics have improved so much in such a little time who knows where we could get to. Along with the graphics the genres of games being released is a huge part too, games are more and more using emotional games to draw people in. When it comes to console technology, a huge improvement over the years is the automatic updates online that change the software and the incremental console updates like Xbox One S and a new version of PS4.

  1. Although, if the community holds itself back by only using consoles as they upgrade (when there are many PCs that are much more powerful than any console on the market), the progress we'll make will be slower than it could be.

  2. Although gaming has improved, I may be stagnated because of the satisfaction of consumers. With technology as a whole improving, but in ways not related to gaming, I doubt the gaming industry will drastically improve in the near future. At most old technologies will be tweaked, but no much else.
